Candidate Message

To the hiring team:

My name is Jaiden Dokken and I am applying for the Copy Editor position.

I gained experience in publishing with Perennial Press. Their published work highlights voices and perspectives that have traditionally been underrepresented, exploring visions of more just futures. I began as a Reader, performing read-throughs and reviews of manuscript submissions, and later joined the Editorial Team as well. As an Editor, I worked mostly on proofreading and organization of the now published poetry collection Hemorrhaging Want and Water by Emily Marie Passos Duffy. Perennial Press was entirely volunteer-run, and the founder chose to close it in 2024. Since then, I have been eager to join another publishing team.

I am particularly devoted to cultivating a passion for pleasure reading. I served as Clallam County’s first Poet Laureate, organizing and hosting between two and four poetry events across the county every month for the duration of my two year term. As the inaugural Poet Laureate, there was no set of guidelines or roadmap for this position, so I developed the standard operations for this role, working with minimal oversight and problem-solving on the fly.

I am cofounder of the Goodies Collaborative, an organization focused on developing arts events and opportunities for creatives out here in this rural corner of Washington state. I also operate my own small art business, making and selling my ceramics, prints, written work, and illustrations. These cherished roles have honed my nuanced ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multifaceted creative projects.
