About the Position: This position is located at the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) Police/Provost Marshal Division, located at FT AP HILL, VA. Pay is set using the 983P Special Salary Scale.
This a developmental position GS-06 target GS-07. Selection may be made at any grade level with non-competitive promotion to the full performance level of GS-07.
Occasional travel – You may be expected to travel for this position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 in the Federal government, which includes: responds to and investigates emergency calls. Exercises search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses. Collects and preserves evidence. Conducts investigations on criminal cases. Performs required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Issues traffic citations. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic. Performs access control duties. Answers visitor questions and provides assistance. Uses law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and action taken. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Time in Grade Requirement GS-06: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 in the Federal government, which includes responds to and investigates emergency calls. Exercises search and arrest authority, detains witnesses, apprehends suspects, interviews witnesses. Collects and preserves evidence. Conducts investigations on criminal cases. Develops case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspect to trial. Appears in court to testify at court proceedings. Performs required lifesaving first aid in the event of an emergency. Conducts civilian training regarding various law enforcement topics. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol. Issues traffic citations. Sets up road blocks, traffic-control points, and directs traffic. Performs access control duties. Answers visitor questions and provides assistance. Assures criminal or Antiterrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) measures are met to protect installation command and assure mission accomplishment. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal. Uses law enforcement computer programs reports concerning all incidents and action taken. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Time in Grade Requirement for GS-7: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
