Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Pay Rate: $50.00 per hour
Duration: 6 Months
Location: 100% Remote

Position Summary:

The Payroll Contractor manages the day-to-day activities of accounting in the areas of payroll and benefits. In addition, they are responsible for the overall processing of payroll, benefits and time tracking reports. The Payroll Contractor, Payroll collaborates closely with the organization, including human resources, legal, and Information Technology.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

These may include, but are not limited to:

• Processes semi-monthly payroll using WorkDay
• Ensures new state payroll tax registrations and garnishment are complete in collaboration with ADP
• Calculates termination payouts and any off-cycle checks
• Collaborates and partners with HR and IT in the implementation of new WorkDay system releases impacting payroll, benefits and or compensation
• Prepares all payroll, paid time off and other benefits journal entries and reconcile payroll and benefits accounts for month end close process
• Coordinates with the Stock Administrator on the reporting of stock transaction in payroll.
• Analyzes payroll and benefits related accounts for unusual trends to ensure accurate reporting
• Prepares information required to complete the 401(k) audit and the workers compensation insurance audit
• Prepares compensation and benefit information to support the proxy and tax provision
• Supports Sarbanes-Oxley compliance process and recommend SOX Controls as needed, as related to areas of specific responsibility
• Collaborates on open issues, process improvements, system changes, plan design clarification including ensuring payroll-inbound/outbound integrations process correctly including ADP’s Smart Compliance, Fidelity 401(k), Benefits
• Reviews and reconciles quarterly and annual, federal, and state, payroll tax returns, and form W-2s

Additional Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Maintain or design internal controls as needed
• Assist in technical guidance research on payroll
• Generate ad-hoc reports to fulfill information needs across the organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Working knowledge and research capability of applicable local, state and federal law pertinent to benefits administration, and familiarity with FMLA, CFRA, CA SDI, ADA, OSHA, COBRA, ERISA.
• Microsoft Excel (intermediate level, including use of charts, graphs, and pivot tables) and Word required.
• Ability to work independently, protect and safeguard confidential information, great attention to detail and to meet deadlines.
• Solid experience in problem solving skills, analytical thinking, and transformative skills necessary to grow with a company are of major importance.
• Experience in pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry in a financial capacity highly preferred.
