Position Summary
MEDiC Life Sciences is an early-stage functional genomics biotech company based in Palo Alto, CA, dedicated to developing first-in-class oncology therapeutics for solid tumors. Leveraging our proprietary 3D-tumor-based CRISPR functional genomics platform, published in Nature (2020), we are identifying novel, prognostic drug targets with the potential to transform cancer treatment.
We are seeking a motivated Research Associate II to join our growing R&D team. In this role, you will be integral to establishing and maintaining CRISPR-edited cell line libraries and supporting scientists conducting CRISPR screens in 2D and 3D tumor models. You will work alongside experts in 3D tumor microenvironment modeling and cancer biology, contributing directly to groundbreaking science with real patient impact.
If you are excited by ambitious science, eager to take ownership, and energized by working with a team that values open communication and collaborative problem-solving, this is a place where you can make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
· Maintain and expand a robust library of CRISPR-edited mammalian cell lines, including cancer and primary cell lines, using rigorous aseptic technique.
· Support the design and execution of CRISPR functional genomics screens in 2D monolayer and 3D tumor model systems.
· Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including plasmid and gDNA purification, PCR, lentiviral transduction, and lipid-based transfection.
· Operate and maintain flow cytometry instruments; perform cell sorting and panel-based analyses as needed.
· Perform DNA extractions and sample prep for NGS sequencing from CRISPR screen samples.
· Prepare, organize, and manage inventory of cell lines, reagents, buffers, and lab consumables; take ownership of ordering and restocking to ensure uninterrupted research operations.
· Record experimental data accurately and maintain organized electronic lab notebooks in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP); share progress and findings openly with the team.
· Collaborate cross-functionally with scientists on 3D tumor microenvironment modeling and cancer target validation projects.
· Optionally support automation workflows and liquid handling platforms to increase throughput and reproducibility.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities at this time.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field with 2+ years of relevant industry or research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field.
· High proficiency in massive mammalian cell culture techniques, including cancer and primary cell lines, with a strong command of aseptic technique and a consistent commitment to quality.
· Hands-on experience with plasmid/gDNA purification, PCR, transfection, and viral transduction; able to execute protocols independently and proactively communicate issues and learnings to the team.
· Practical experience operating flow cytometers and interpreting cytometric data with accuracy and attention to detail.
· Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage large inventories of cell lines and biological reagents across multiple concurrent projects; takes initiative and personal accountability for lab readiness.
· Clear and open communicator able to document data precisely, present findings to the team, and contribute to a culture of shared knowledge and informed decision-making.
· Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a collaborative team member in a fast-paced research environment, combining expertise with colleagues to solve complex scientific problems.
· Eager to learn, receptive to feedback, and motivated to continuously improve both individual and team performance.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
· This is an on-site, laboratory-based position in Palo Alto, CA.
· Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform fine motor tasks in a laboratory setting.
· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds (e.g., reagent shipments, equipment).
· Regular use of standard laboratory safety equipment (PPE) is required.
· May require occasional weekend or evening work to accommodate experimental time points.
· Work involves routine handling of biological materials under BSL-2 conditions; training and certification provided.
