Georgia-Pacific has created an exciting new role, Process Development Lead. This role creates value by applying apply our technology and creative resources to our customer’s business objectives to develop and implement sustainable packaging solutions. Georgia-Pacific and many of our customers are increasingly concerned about their usage of single-use plastic packaging and are seeking alternative solutions. Reporting to the Director of Innovation at our Innovation Institute®, the selected candidate will work with a broad team of internal and external experts to establish the team needed to deliver innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that help our customers reach their goals. The physical location of this role may offer flexibility and the selected individual will provide visibility, leadership and support at our new facility in Tolleson, AZ (greater Phoenix area). Relocation assistance is available.
The Process Development Lead will work closely with a broad variety of cross-functional groups internally as well as having responsibility to identify and manage external technology partners. They will also work with functional groups within our customers, including operations, engineering, and packaging. The candidate must have a demonstrated technical aptitude and comfort level in manufacturing process development in new operations or startups. Creativity and disciplined, statistically based experimentation are both required in order to successfully deliver high quality and effective products while optimizing total delivered cost.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes
Building and leading a team that is responsible for completing the commercialization of a new sustainable packaging solution, including optimizing the product performance, material cost, and process
Establishing and managing a portfolio of experiments and trials to simultaneously drive continual improvement while also identifying broad areas of opportunity to guide long term process and product evolution
Engaging in targeted customer discussions in order to better understand customer needs and requirements in order to further optimize the current solution
Developing and validating the processes and systems to successfully scale similar products to additional manufacturing sites
Working with outside technology suppliers and partners to identify, develop and implement emerging materials and processing technologies to enable paper or fiber-based materials to deliver similar functionality as existing polymer-based packaging
Effectively collaborate with cross-functional internal teams, including operations, commercial leadership, procurement, and other internal capability teams
Identifying and attracting additional team members that can deliver upon the overall objectives of the position
What You Will Need
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in an engineering or science field OR fifteen (15) or more years experience leading process development within manufacturing or operations in lieu of an engineering or science degree
Five (5) or more years experience identifying, developing, and/or commercializing innovations in packaging, paper, film or other experience incorporating continuous processes with multiple unit operations including extrusion or commercial heating and drying
Experience in manufacturing process and equipment development and optimization
Knowledge and familiarity of developing and maintaining intellectual property portfolios including patents and technology licenses
Experience leading teams or projects
