Packaging Operator (3 pm to 11:30 pm)
Job Description SUMMARY:
All Packaging Operators are responsible for all activities associated with the finishing operations of sterile and non-sterile manufactured drug products. These activities listed within this posting are requirements of the position. However, these requirements are subject to change with the creation of new products introduced in future expansions within current facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Must perform inspections of packaging components to provide assurance that products meet defined specifications.
*
Operate packaging equipment used for finishing operations. Also clearing jams, which do not require a mechanic.
*
Must be capable of lifting filled packaging shippers and loading onto finished goods pallet.
*
Inspect tubes and bottles during filling operations.
*
Handle startup and shut down duties pertaining to packaging equipment at the beginning and end of each shift
*
Responsible for packaging integrity and quality checks on each packaging order
Maintain a clean and orderly work area by ensuring that floors are clean and organized appropriately
*
Tend to packaging machines by using appropriate controls to package different items
Load and unload items into packaging machines and remove rejected packages to be isolated as rejects or re-inspection
*
Reset machines following malfunctions or need for repeated cycles
Check packaged items for proper gluing, lot number and expiration date
Sort, label, grade and inspect packaged products
*
Stack packaged items in storage areas or on delivery pallets using jack pallets
*
Must be able to clean packaging equipment, this includes cleaning rejected cartons, inserts, bottles, tubes from all machines. This also includes the ability to lean over equipment as well as kneeling on the floor to clean under equipment.

Must be able to provide empty pallets for packaging lines and have the ability to operate the manual pallet jack for removing full pallets from the packaging line.

Must be able to work on a platform operating a machine.
*
Must be able to don coveralls required in controlled areas to weigh filled rejects at the end of filling operations.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
*
Must have the training given to assume any position within the department for coverage of absences, with respect to illnesses and vacations.
*
Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) packaging guidelines.
*
SOP trained and other important safety guidelines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School or GED and equivalent job experience in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing.
JOB PREREQUISITES:

Read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Understanding of the metric weight system.
*
Must be detail oriented with the ability to work within a team atmosphere or independent if required.
*
Ability to meet attendance standards. All full-time employees are required to work a 40-hr week. At times it may be necessary to work additional hours in order to get the required tasks accomplished to meet deadlines.
