Directly responsible for all key manufacturing results, including safety, quality, productivity, meeting deadlines, housekeeping, basic equipment maintenance, scrap reduction, employee development, achieving machine speeds, and employee morale. Serves as the primary technical expert for his/her assigned area.
REPRESENTATIVE LIST OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assure all safety rules are known and followed. This includes safe work procedures, lockout/tag out, PPE compliance, assuring that all machine guards are in place and functioning properly, etc.
Perform daily housekeeping to ensure standards are maintained. Promptly report any unsafe conditions in assigned areas.
Report accidents, near-misses and injuries.
Perform required quality checks according to QC procedures. Ensure product is running with proper paper, ink color, etc.
Monitor quality of bales and ensure press, glue, heaters, etc. are functioning properly.
Participate in plant quality audits.
Correct production issues and Report product which is not meeting the required quality standards.
Set-up/Adjust machines to meet required quality standards.
Set-up/Adjust print to meet required quality standards.
Monitor product quality for assigned Bag Machines.
Technical & Equipment
Perform greasing & oiling of machines, machine adjustments, print set-ups, machine maintenance, maintaining ink consistency, etc.
Mount plates, replace dies and blades, equipment timing, etc.
Clear machine jams, troubleshoot and correct issue.
In case of a breakdown, repair and adjust as necessary. Contact Maintenance when necessary. Report condition to Shift Supervisor.
Submit Work Order Requests for all major equipment repairs.
Follow up on daily machine and operational problems. Identify recurring problems. Work with other Adjusters, maintenance and management to correct short and long-term concerns.
Ensure recurring problems are brought to the attention of the Shift Supervisor.
Perform job duties according to policies and procedures.
Production & Cost Control
Monitor and control machine run speeds, scrap and downtime.
Perform required machine PM’s.
Monitor and minimize waste.
Complete routine daily reports and ensure accuracy.
Communicate at shift change with Adjusters to ensure a smooth shift transition.
Handle print set-ups as needed. Ensure that machine changeovers are completed according to production schedule.
Report problems and plant rules and policy violations to appropriate supervisor or to HR.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
PRINCIPAL CONTACTS INSIDE/OUTSIDE COMPANY:
Deals primarily with internal Novolex plant employees. Communicates extensively with other Adjusters, supervisors, maintenance and BMO personnel. Infrequent contact with vendors, employees at other Novolex plants, and Novolex corporate personnel.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required.
Some college or trade school classes preferred.
Demonstrated mechanical abilities and competencies.
Ability to troubleshoot and correct mechanical issues.
Experience in a production environment preferred.
Mechatronics, Machinist or Mechanic Preferred.
Excellent mechanical aptitude and analytical problem solving ability.
Good communications skills. Must be able to listen attentively, organize his/her thoughts, speak & write clearly and comprehend written documents.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to handle multiple priorities with patience.
Good general record keeping skills and math skills.
Excellent self-discipline. Works well without immediate supervision.
Good interpersonal skills. Must exhibit leadership traits.
Works well under multitask pressure.
Bilingual language skills a plus [English/Spanish].

Makes frequent decisions, under changing circumstances, about product quality, equipment and materials and safety. Decisions must be prompt and accurate based on the facts available.
ERRORS AND THEIR CONSEQUENCES:
Errors can severely affect plant results, including poor quality, employee injuries, inadequate equipment utilization, poor machinery condition, missed shipments, high costs, low employee morale and lost business. Poor performance directly affect plant budgetary requirements.
Must be able to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain a wide range of bag making machines. Bag types include Grocery, Sack, Merchandise, Barrel and other styles of bags. In addition, person must learn many different machinery brands used to produce each bag type. Each machine brand and bag type is unique. Person must also learn a wide array of auxiliary equipment including collators, printing presses, end sealers, machine shop tools, patch units, strappers and other pieces of equipment, in addition to the actual bag machines.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Person is regularly exposed to dirt, dust, noise, and fumes. Plants are not air-conditioned and may be hot and humid in the summer. In addition, plants may be drafty and have cold spots in the winter. Person may be required to go outside during inclement weather.
If qualified, could be promoted to Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, or other management position.
