SUMMARY OF POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
This position is responsible for the continuous improvement of procurement operations and processes. Responsibilities include supplier sourcing of materials and services at competitive pricing. Maintain and update the supplier database, assess supplier capacity, and find alternative suppliers if the existing ones are unable to meet their obligations.
A strategic sourcing specialist’s goal is to reduce costs and improve delivery time, work with the relevant departments to ensure that costs remain within budget, and work with senior management to ensure that the supplier base remains in alignment with the needs of the company. This is attained by partnering with both senior management and global corporate procurement best practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / JOB DUTIES:
This position is divided into the following areas of functional responsibility with percentages assigned indicating the amount of time spent on each activity, which could include the following:
50% Identify and perform contract negotiation with both existing and new critical suppliers. Develop and maintain long-lasting relationships with them as well as existing suppliers.
20% Liaison between suppliers and internal supply chain on long term forecasts and each supplier’s capability to support and execute to forecast.
20% Assess and report on findings regarding supplier risk assessments and supplier capacity assessments. Develop and implement innovative ideas to enhance sourcing strategies and lead annual cost savings projects in regards to the supply base. Implement 2nd or multi-source strategies where appropriate to support a scalable international supplier base.
10% Initiates evaluations and makes recommendations in regard to key materials and suppliers. Interface with site operations to support customer applications, cost estimates, product quality, and manufacturability.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon department necessity.
· Prepares, inputs and maintains specific spreadsheet data using computers and software (e g, M/S Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
· Prepares internal and external written correspondence; communicates verbally with coworkers, customers, and others in a professional and positive manner; conducts meetings/presentations using Excel, PowerPoint, etc; and persuade others in acceptance of desired changes, improvements.
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Must possess and demonstrate the following combination of knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation (or provide an alternative set).
· Be familiar with state-of-the-art procurement methodologies and best practices as they pertain to manufacturing stainless steel, high-vacuum products.
· Must be familiar with all procurement modules in appropriate ERP systems, or have passed all internal and external training for those modules prior to assuming the position.
Working experience in sourcing and managing suppliers.
Must have strong negotiation skills
Must have strong organizational and time-management skills in order to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Understand the Semi-conductor industry’s dynamic market.
· Must possess the ability to identify and resolve complex procurement issues.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Education: Any combination of education and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited college/university with a BS degree in a technical field, or a BA in business fields that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
Experience: Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment, with additional 3 years specific experience in precision metals fabrication and machining environment desired; plus 3 years procurement experience.
Safety: 65% inside, climate / noise controlled office, 25% travel, and 10% machine shop environment; lifting to 25 lbs on occasion. Eye, hearing, safety shoe, and Cleanroom protection may be required in the manufacturing areas.
Travel: As necessary involving overnight stays, and being out of town over weekends.
