Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association Hiring for Multimedia Journalist Job at Plymouth, MN Full Time

MMUA’s multimedia journalist is responsible for researching, writing, and distributing The Resource, MMUA’s flagship publication covering topics relevant to municipal utility management and the provision of utility services. S/he is also responsible for the creation of a variety of media materials including social media posts, videos in support of news and programming, occasional podcasts, marketing pieces, and website updates.

Essential functions:

• Cover breaking news, produce feature articles, and coordinate contributor material to publish The Resource in print and e-News online eleven times per year.
• Develop and expand the municipal utilities beat by visiting sites, developing sources, and building up a base of knowledge on topics relevant to members.
• In concert with the leadership team, develop and carry out a comprehensive media communications plan including web content, social media platforms, podcasts, video, development of collateral material related to the organization’s mission and goals, and related tactics.
• Serve as primary photographer, videographer, and media editor for projects and assist with locating appropriate external resources for these tasks when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with and through colleagues to help MMUA achieve the goals in its strategic and operating plans.

• Proficiency with social media platforms
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud applications and similar software

Travel required: In-state travel by car between 5 and 7 days per month; home 95% of the time. Occasional overnight travel for events.

Required education and experience

Bachelor’s degree or higher, or combination of education and experience that provides advanced journalism, media communications, and design skills. Five+ years experience successfully writing for and/or editing specialized content. Experience maximizing social media followers and related methods of building an audience.Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining successful working partnerships and relationships.

Preferred education and experience

• Experience in utilities, not-for-profits, or associations is desirable but not required
• Knowledge of issues related to transitioning to clean and renewable energy sources
• Ability to speak effectively in public

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
