The Loudoun County Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Full-time Assistant Probation Officer.
This position will assist probation and pretrial officers by monitoring defendants and offenders ordered to participate in electronic monitoring (GPS and remote alcohol monitoring), performing drug/alcohol testing of offenders, conducting community contacts with defendants/offenders, and attending Court proceedings, as needed. The position installs electronic monitoring equipment on criminal defendants and offenders, which requires close contact with defendants/offenders. Personal protective equipment is provided. Additionally, this position assists with pretrial and probation intakes, maintains accurate automated case log notes, interviews defendants/offenders, & submits documents to Court. As a member of the on-call rotation, after-hours work during the week and weekends are required. Must be available to attend work meetings/court proceedings and meet offenders or conduct off-hours remote surveillance during non-scheduled hours (evening and weekend work may be required).
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.
Job Requirements
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field and one year related work experience. Ability to speak Spanish also preferred.
Special Requirements
Position requires community contacts with offenders which include residential and/or employment visits and retrieval of electronic monitoring equipment in the community. Must be willing to work with defendants/offenders who may have history of violent crime. Must collect urine specimens and coordinate testing for illegal substances. The candidate must be able to work as part of a team within the Community Corrections Department. VCIN certification is required or selected candidate must obtain within 90 days of employment.
