In this role, your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolve. You will provide robotics programming and engineering support to the vehicle assembly, body maintenance and body production organization. You will be responsible for design, development, testing, and control of major engineering projects involving tools, equipment, and plant and manufacturing processes in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgement. You will need to exercise technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel with specific engineering objectives. You will be responsible for plant floor support in giving service and assistance to production and maintenance as it pertains to robot support or robot programming and engineering.
You will be responsible for equipment related to the manufacturing process. You will be required to use your independent discernment.
Your responsibility may involve training others and assigning work to a small group of employees.
You will participate in functional area plant meetings and related activities representing engineering and to assist in improving the plant’s performance goals.
You will provide technical support, direction, training and problem solving to root cause analysis.
You will be required to develop robot training courses and conduct courses in the training cell.
You will participate in the weekly weekend/holiday worklist planning activities including updating the list of needed work, scheduling work, and attending meetings.
You will be required to develop validation and testing procedures for equipment errors and failures to reduce and/or eliminate downtime.
You will develop cost estimates, investment forecast, business cases, appropriation requests, and plans for minor project activity.
You will be required to coordinate software updates.
You will develop and monitor planning timetables and project schedules.
You will coordinate with area manufacturing engineers and GM Vehicle Systems Engineering on new model process and equipment planning, including model change, CQPI (Cost Quality & Productivity Initiatives), throughput, sourcing, etc. You may work on advanced programs outside of the assembly plant which will require limited travel.
You will manage robot projects including new, replacement, operations improvements, and periodic repair and replacement.
You will assist in the development of a project support plan between the plant, GMNA, and contractor resources.
You will support the Fort Wayne Assembly enterprise (Body, Paint, and General Assembly) with robot controls support.
You must maintain proficiency in your field. This may require specialized training and travel.
You are required to be flexible in your work hours including floating between shifts to support the maintenance teams. Your schedule may be non-traditional in nature-supporting weekend activity where required.
You will be required to complete all GMS (Global Manufacturing System) audits and requirements.
You will be responsible to comply with the terms of GM/UAW local and national agreements
You will maintain corporate and unit management control systems and department records and manage issues reported by Fanuc regarding robots.
You will need to utilize best practices and common systems to support the overall competitive manufacturing initiatives.
You will coordinate and communicate the development of changes to improve conditions for the assembly process.
You will provide input into the establishment of the plant budget for the Body Shop.
You will ensure long term, cost effective maintenance of equipment and facility.
You will coordinate input from internal/external customers to meet customer needs and/or perceptions.
You must maintain a good working relationship with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interfaces with necessary support functions outside of the assembly plant.
