Job Overview
The Executive Director of Project Management is the senior leader responsible for overseeing all project and program execution across the organization. This role leads the enterprise Project Management Office (PMO), ensuring that strategic initiatives are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives.
The Executive Director acts as a critical bridge between strategy and execution, integrating resources, governance, and methodologies to drive successful project outcomes, operational efficiency, and organizational impact.
Key Responsibilities
I. Project Strategy Formulation and Execution
Develop and implement enterprise-wide project management strategies, frameworks, and governance models.
Align project portfolio with corporate strategy and business priorities.
Collaborate with executive leadership to translate strategic objectives into actionable programs and projects.
Ensure consistent and effective execution of projects across all business units.
II. Project Portfolio and Program Management
Oversee the planning, prioritization, and execution of the organization’s project portfolio.
Ensure optimal allocation of resources across multiple projects and programs.
Monitor project timelines, budgets, scope, and deliverables to ensure successful completion.
Provide regular updates and strategic insights to senior leadership on project performance.
III. PMO Leadership and Methodology Standardization
Establish and lead the Project Management Office (PMO) to standardize tools, processes, and best practices.
Implement project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid models.
Drive governance, reporting standards, and project documentation consistency.
Continuously improve PMO maturity and organizational project capabilities.
IV. Risk Management and Quality Assurance
Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks across the portfolio.
Establish quality assurance frameworks to ensure deliverables meet defined standards.
Conduct project audits, reviews, and post-implementation evaluations.
Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
V. Performance and Business Analysis
Define and monitor key project KPIs (e.g., on-time delivery, budget adherence, resource utilization, ROI).
Develop dashboards and reporting systems for real-time visibility into project performance.
Drive data-driven decision-making to improve execution efficiency and outcomes.
Analyze project results to identify improvement opportunities and best practices.
VI. Cross-departmental Collaboration and Organizational Development
Collaborate with product, operations, technology, finance, and HR teams to ensure project alignment and execution.
Establish cross-functional communication and coordination mechanisms.
Remove execution barriers and improve organizational agility.
Build and lead high-performing project management teams and promote a culture of accountability and excellence.
Qualifications
Education Background
Bachelor’s degree or above in Business Administration, Engineering, Project Management, or related fields
MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
PMP or equivalent certification strongly preferred
Work Experience
Typically 18+ years of experience in project or program management, including 8+ years in senior leadership roles
Proven experience managing large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects
Demonstrated success in establishing or leading PMO functions
Experience in multinational organizations or large enterprises preferred
