Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) is a state program under the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and the Department of Culture, Recreation, & Tourism promoting personal, corporate, and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana. KLB supports local communities through programs and resources for litter education, prevention, removal, enforcement, beautification, recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability initiatives. KLB is affiliated with the national organization, Keep America Beautiful, and supports a robust statewide network of Community Affiliates and University Affiliates. POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for directing all communications, media and marketing strategies for Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB), ensuring brand visibility is strong, consistent, and supportive of the organization’s mission and goals. Occasional after-hour work and in-state travel required. Work is performed with minimal supervision. Work is performed weekdays in the Mandeville office from 8am to 4pm. This is an unclassified position with the State of Louisiana.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Leadership
· Develop and implement communications strategies for KLB to advance organizational priorities, increase brand awareness, and deploy strategic campaigns aligned with KLB’s mission and goals.
· Oversee advertising firm and vendor contracts and ensure deliverables align with expectations and are executed in a timely manner.
· Oversee the Manager of Communications, providing guidance, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality results.
· Collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders on projects.
· Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns, develop reports, and adjust strategies as needed.
· Ensure compliance with KLB branding on social media, media relations, marketing, campaigns, and all other communications.
· Build and manage KLB communications and marketing budget.
· Cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships to promote and grow the KLB brand.
· Represent KLB with professionalism when working with state and local leaders, Affiliates, and partners.
Content Creation
· Develop core messaging and talking points that reflect KLB’s mission, values, and priorities.
· Plan, write, and design strategic communications across mediums that elevate the KLB brand.
· Prepare speeches and presentations for speaking engagements and special events.
· Design materials for the promotion of KLB events and programs and ensure that materials designed by other staff or agencies align with brand standards.
· Review and edit content created by Manager of Communications and other KLB staff members as needed.
Public Relations & Media
· Direct all aspects of a statewide multi-media campaign
· Direct and manage social media strategies, posts and campaigns
· Write and distribute press releases and media advisories and achieve coverage for KLB programs and initiatives.
· Develop relationships with media and manage media strategy.
· Position KLB as a thought leader and advocate voice on mission-related topics.
· Plan and promote press conferences for special events.
· Serve as a KLB spokesperson when needed for media interviews.
· Prepare talking points for KLB spokespeople for media interviews and press conferences.
· Track media coverage and prepare regular reports.
Events and Programs
· Responsible for directing the marketing for these signature event and others as needed: State Conference, Everyday Hero Awards, Love the Boot Week, and the Love Our Waterways Cleanup Initiative.
· Responsible for directing the marketing of these programs and others as needed: Get Down & Clean Up library program, Clean Biz Partnership, Put the Brakes on Litter, Youth Education, Affiliate Network, Litter Enforcement, and KLB grants.
Engagement and Partnerships
· Support the Executive Director in identifying opportunities for KLB partnership.
· Create and strategically disseminate information for signature events.
· Cultivate mutually beneficial partnerships to promote and grow the KLB brand.
Qualifications:
· 7+ years of communications and marketing experience
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field
· Experience managing a million+ budget
· Proved work experience in communications, marketing and media relations.
· Highly capable project manager with excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills
· Exceptional verbal communicator, writer, and storyteller with the ability to develop clear and persuasive materials that compel diverse audiences.
· Experience managing multiple advertising agencies and media campaigns.
· Experience supervising a team
· Success in developing and advancing communications strategies for campaigns, and programs
· Good proofreading skills and attention to detail
· Results-driven, quick learning
· Ability to self-start and work independently with limited supervision
· Ability to work successfully with staff and partners
· Proficiency in WordPress, and Elementor
· Experience with website management
· Proficiency in graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite applications and Canva.
· Proficiency with social media scheduling tools such as Sprout Social
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

Physical Demands:
· The work is predominately performed while intermittently sitting (5 – 8 hours daily), standing (2 – 5 hours daily), and walking in an office setting.
· The employee frequently lifts heavy objects (up to 20 lbs), climbs stairs, bends, and kneels.
· Must be able to drive a car with a valid driver’s license.
· Some overnight/weeknight/and weekend work is performed at meetings and conferences in the state.

Salary Range: $75,000 – $85,000
