What We Are Looking For:
Cedar Stars is looking for Director of Coaching to join our team.
About the Role:
The Director of Coaching (DOC) is responsible for leading and implementing the club’s technical vision, coaching standards, and player development pathway. This individual will oversee all coaching staff, ensure alignment with the club’s methodology, and drive a high-performance environment across all age groups.
The DOC plays a key leadership role in both the sporting and operational success of the club, working closely with executive leadership, administrators, and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Leadership & Player Development
● Develop, implement, and oversee the club’s playing philosophy and curriculum across all age groups (U4–U19)
● Ensure a clear and structured player development pathway
● Monitor and evaluate team and individual player progress
● Lead talent identification, recruitment, and retention strategies
● Oversee player movement across teams (vertical and horizontal alignment)
2. Coaching Staff Management
● Recruit, hire, onboard, and retain high-quality coaching staff
● Assign coaches to teams in alignment with club standards and needs
● Conduct regular coach evaluations, feedback sessions, and performance reviews ● Run continuous professional development programs, including:
○ Coaching education sessions
○ On-field mentoring
○ Individual development plans (IDPs) for coaches
3. Program Oversight
● Oversee all competitive travel program teams
● Oversee Recreational Program attached to the club
● Ensure training sessions meet club standards in quality, intensity, and organization
● Coordinate seasonal planning including:
○ Training schedules
○ Game models
○ Tournament participation
● Work closely with administration on team formation, rostering, and league applications
4. Club Culture & Standards
● Establish and maintain a high-performance, player-first environment
● Uphold club values, professionalism, and accountability across all staff
● Ensure consistency in communication and delivery across all locations/teams
● Address parent/player concerns in collaboration with leadership when necessary
5. Operational Collaboration
● Work with administrative staff on:
○ Tryouts and player evaluations
○ Scheduling and logistics
○ Registration platforms (e.g., LeagueApps, GotSport)
● Support club initiatives including camps, clinics, and supplemental programs
● Assist in strategic growth, including affiliate club integration and expansion
6. Recruitment & Club Growth
● Lead recruitment initiatives to attract top players and coaches
● Build relationships with local clubs, schools, and community organizations
● Support club expansion efforts, including new branches or partnerships
7. Communication & Reporting
● Provide regular updates to Executive Director / Leadership Team
● Lead weekly technical meetings with coaching staff
● Maintain clear communication with players, parents, and staff
● Ensure alignment across all departments within the club
Qualifications
● USSF B License or equivalent
● Minimum 5+ years of experience in a leadership coaching role
● Proven track record of developing players and coaches
● Experience working within elite youth platforms
● Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
● Ability to manage multiple teams, staff, and programs simultaneously
