At its broadest scope, the Warehouse Supervisors responsibilities are an extension of the duties that would ultimately be part of the Warehouse Managers daily routine.
The Warehouse Supervisor can be defined as an individual who is responsible for the direct oversight of the process and personnel within a specific job function or functions. That being said, a Warehouse Supervisor is expected to lead his or her respective area(s) by assisting those in the group in any manner necessary. This includes, but is not limited to, answering questions from employees regarding processes, procedures and policies as well as the direct oversight of all daily operations within his or her area(s). The Warehouse Supervisor is expected to work closely with other Supervisors and the Warehouse Manager to continually improve the productivity, quality and overall customer satisfaction of the warehouse as a whole. Building a specific culture that is based on respect, hard work and overall continuous improvement of process and personnel is also a part of the Supervisors responsibilities. In summation, the responsibilities of Warehouse Supervisors are as follows:
A Warehouse Supervisors overall goal should be to improve and impact the daily operations of the warehouse in a positive manner. It is ultimately his or her responsibility if the areas that are being supervised do not produce in a constant and consistent fashion. Supervisors are the eyes and ears of the Warehouse Manager and should never engage in conduct that is detrimental to the group.
While the exact method of supervision may differ from person to person, the goals are the same, implement a culture of success and work closely with the Warehouse Manager to see that this culture grows and succeeds. These goals begin at the most fundamental of levels, those processes that lie at the foundation of the warehouse organization, (namely shipping, kitting, packing, shipping, etc.). Success in these areas leads to a successful warehouse. It is the Warehouse Supervisors responsibility to make sure success is the norm and not the exception.
