The purpose of this position is to maintain and track all police records, and route and send mail and faxes that arrive daily.
Tracks reportable crimes, forwards DWI paperwork to Department of Public Safety (DPS) Austin, sends copies of accident reports to City Risk Management, as appropriate.
Removes all computerized and written reports upon approved destruction orders, scans stored paper arrest cases, gathers information/statistics for open records requests, certifies documents for arrest reports, accidents, background checks, expunctions and open records requests.
Recalls invalid bonds and warrants, keeps track of all components that comprise the case reports sent to the District Attorney, posts accident reports to the internet, and maintains files for DWI minors, runaways, missing persons, stolen vehicle recovery, helicopter landing permits, impound sheets, solicitor permits, street closures, and handbill permits.
Answers phones and route calls as needed, process online payments via Tyler Munis cashiering and processes credit card payments over the phone for fingerprinting, accident reports, and certification letters, retrieves arrest, accident, and case reports for customers, provides general information to the public, provides background checks for military personnel, and generates letters for background checks and immigration.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. High School diploma or equivalent.
No experience is required.
Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.
Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
Intermediate ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias, to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement and to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
Works primarily in a climate controlled office environment. Physical demands consist of sedentary work and little physical effort working with light, easy to handle (up to 10 lbs.) materials. Work performed may occasionally cause fatigue of eyes and fingers because of fairly continuous use of motor senses in using automated office systems. Requires sitting for long periods of time, manual dexterity and visual activity in the use of computers.
