Boulo Solutions Hiring for Graphic & Book Designer Job at Remote Full Time

Boulo is recruiting for an experienced Graphic & Book Designer to join the team of an industry leader in black-and-white, 2-color, and 4-color books, gift, maps, and licensed products. The Graphic & Book Designer will support a busy and creative design and marketing department. The Graphic & Book Designer should be a collaborative, organized, tech savvy, problem-solver with great communication skills.

Employment Type: Part time, 20 hours per week

Flexibility: 100% remote

Pay: $25-$30 per hour

We are looking for at least 3+ years of experience with graphic design, developing book cover concepts, production design and support of a longform design workflow. The Graphic & Book Designer will interface with Pre-press, Production, and Editorial teams, and will work on a wide variety of the 80+ books per year that the company publishes. The ideal candidate will have experience with full production of a book or other print publications—from working through design briefs and developing sound cover concepts, building out text designs that fit with cover designs, building InDesign templates/style sheets, and flowing manuscripts into InDesign and working through correction cycles to the preflight process. The Graphic & Book Designer will also create multiple kinds of PDFs for Marketing and Publicity purposes.

We prefer that the candidate have:

• Experience with Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop and Illustrator on a Mac
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and timely and efficient follow-up
• Proficiency in other Adobe software and Microsoft Word
• Able to work independently as well as cross-departmentally
• Able to manage and adhere to schedules

Bonus points for skills with:

• Photo editing
• Color correction

Responsibilities of the Graphic & Book Designer position

• Know and improve the book design process, InDesign templates, stylesheets
• Work with stock agencies and photo libraries
• Manage freelance designers
• Assess designers’ sample pages and concepts to create clean and well-thought-out templates, style sheets, object styles, libraries, and master pages
• Create PDFs and upload to Dropbox for sharing cross-departmentally
• Organize, name, relink, and release hi-res art to production
• Interface with pre-press—correctly package, upload, and organize files for them
• Ensure consistency in our files and workflows with production
• Make reprint corrections and manage reprint files
• Any other art department support
• Though production design experience in book publishing is a plus, it is not required or needed to succeed in this role—initiative, innovation, and the ability to develop fresh design concepts are key.
