ing into the Vice President of Strategy & Market Intelligence, the Head of Commodity Strategy Copper & Potash will lead the development of Commodity and Asset strategies for BHP’s future-facing commodities Copper and Potash. Leveraging extensive internal and external knowledge, networks and data, you will make recommendations for our strategic decisions within those commodities and lead the commodity supply analysis for Copper & Potash. You are committed to ensuring the decision-making and evaluation of every growth option, acquisition or divestment undertaken by BHP is clear, well informed and backed up by sound analysis.
As the Head of Commodity Strategy, you will be a key contributor to the development and application of strategic hypotheses; to lead and support projects to progress the development and implementation of our strategy including the evaluation of key strategic opportunities and challenges. You will provide guidance on the collection, analysis and use of industry data to provide a robust view of the global market including medium to long term commodity supply forecasts & competitor activity to support the development of commodity and asset strategies; feeding into BHP’s growth and Business Development activities.
You will be required to leverage a sound understanding of industry & macro-economic trends, market intelligence, and foresight to help enable enterprise growth. You will bring multidisciplinary teams together to collaboratively solve and implement solutions to systemic problems, challenging others with new ideas and apply approaches to deliver future-facing strategies. Thus, as the Head of Commodity Strategy – Copper & Potash, you will be a catalyst for all that is ahead at BHP.
This is a global search with the role to be based in Santiago, Chile (preferred); Toronto, Canada; or London, United Kingdom.
You are an enthusiastic, confident self-starter who is able to work independently and as part of a team. Your strong technical understanding of the resources sector, coupled with a mastery of commodity strategy and market intelligence, will support your operational understanding and enable you to add value through commercial insight. Strong attention to detail and critical thinking, analysis and problem solving will be key to your success, as will your ability to coordinate team members from a variety of different internal and external teams and meet often challenging timelines.
A performance and commercially orientated professional, your technical finance & valuation strengths gained from your previous experience working within a Business Development, Forecasting, or Strategy Function will be well developed and industry leading. These skills will be complemented by excellent people skills, engagement and communication, high energy levels, and an action oriented attitude tempered by simplicity. An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment and sustainable development is a must.
