Human Resources Generalist – Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist is an integral member of our HR team and will have responsibilities in the areas of talent acquisition, employee relations, employee training and development, policy interpretation and employee engagement. At Bell Nursery, our HR Generalists dedicate a large portion of their activities toward the creation of a learning culture. Many of their activities are structured around training and development activities – from our seasonal workforce to our full-time management staff. These positions are in respective regions throughout Bell Nursery.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Employee recruiting, hiring, and retention

• Lead full life-cycle recruitment for hourly and salaried roles in region. Proactively identify talent gaps, needs, and provide creative recruiting solutions
• Administer the requisition/approval process and partner with the HR Coordinator regarding all advertising needs for region
• Lead Talent Planning initiatives within their region of districts and work in partnership with the Regional HR Manager, Director of Merchandising, and facility General Managers to plan for human capital needs
• Conduct stay and exit interviews and act as a conduit in the approval process for region-specific personnel actions/changes (PAF)

Acting as the HR leader to interpret human resources policy and procedure

• Respond efficiently to Human Resources queries from field and facility managers
• Lead the Progressive Coaching process throughout their respective regions – ensure due process for all employees
• Conduct work-place investigations in partnership with Regional HR Managers
• Assist with establishing, implementing, and documenting policies and procedures
• Demonstrate leadership and guidance across site by coaching, counseling and problem solving with operational leaders and front-line managers

Training and Development

• Lead the on-boarding process and new-hire orientation processes. Ensure all new hire paperwork is completed accurately, timely, and that the HRIS system is updated
• Participate in the analysis, design, development, and facilitation of training efforts throughout the company including management development training
• Support technical training in the areas of IT rollouts, HRIS program areas, and other software initiatives/changes that affect their respective regions
• Organize training materials/manuals for key employee groups and deliver training
• Assess training needs in their district

Promoting the wellbeing and safety of our employees, customers and vendors

• Facilitate the accident/incident process for the company – including training for field and facility management
• Manage the workers’ compensation process for facility
• Promote a positive work environment and increase employee engagement

Additional Responsibilities:

• Organize and coordinate employee recognition events on a regional basis
• Manage the H2A visa worker process at facility
• Conduct training on PMP, Paycom (HRIS), and compliance
• Administer the HRIS system on a region-wide basis – act as point of contact for employee data changes to maintain accurate HR records
• Maintain a professional image at all times
• Develop positive employee relationships promoting employee comfort regarding employee situations, involve appropriate decision makers and deliver business centered decisions
• Drive a positive culture that creates an inspiring employee experience
• Work in conjunction with the Benefits Manager to coordinate benefit administration – including annual open enrollment meetings, educational sessions, and wellness initiatives
• Act as point of contact to help with payroll inquiries
• Complete necessary office type duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning, and faxing
• Participate in projects as assigned in addition to other duties

IDEAL CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, or related field or equivalent experience with 2-3 years’ experience in Human Resources.
• SHRM or HRCI certification preferred, but not required
• Bilingual in Spanish plus, but not required
• Experience in Green industry, merchandising, or distribution industry a plus
• Systems knowledge and ability to learn new technology. Proficiency in HRIS systems, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Experience with data analysis for program evaluation and to make evidence-based recommendations
• Experience creating and maintaining critical Human Resources administrative functions
• Ability to interact with employees at all levels within company (field, distribution, greenhouse, regional, corporate employees, and managers)
• Possess a high level of professionalism, with the ability to perform under deadlines and multi-task
• Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful situations
• Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to drive a positive, inclusive culture for inspiring employee experiences
• Demonstrate attention to detail, organizational and analytical skills with a continuous improvement mindset
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with confidential data

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Distribution centers, greenhouses and office environment requiring the ability to sit, stand and walk as needed to interact with employees and managers
• Required travel within respective region as needed, less than 5%. Periodic travel to the company’s Maryland offices for meetings/events

Pay: $60,000.00 – $67,000.00 per year
