Chief Financial Officer / Controller

We are conducting a confidential search for a Chief Financial Officer / Controller on behalf of a well-established New York-based organization. This is a key executive leadership role for a hands-on finance professional who can oversee the full financial function while also serving as a strategic partner to ownership and senior leadership.

This opportunity is best suited for a CFO who understands the dynamics of a labor-intensive, contract-driven business. The organization operates in a regulated service environment where workforce compliance, time tracking, payroll accuracy, contract profitability, and customer pricing strategy are all critical to overall financial performance. This is not a generic professional services CFO role. The ideal candidate will bring strong operational finance experience and a deep understanding of how to support a business where field operations, employee oversight, and regulatory requirements directly impact profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the company’s overall financial strategy, planning, forecasting, and reporting processes
• Oversee all core accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, month-end close, budgeting, cash flow management, payroll oversight, and financial controls
• Prepare and present timely, accurate financial reporting and analysis to ownership and senior leadership, including performance trends, forecasts, margin analysis, and strategic recommendations
• Analyze customer contracts and service agreements to evaluate profitability, identify financial risk, and support stronger business decision-making
• Develop and refine pricing strategy and cost allocation methodologies by contract to help maximize margin and improve visibility into account performance
• Partner closely with operational leadership to assess labor deployment, time tracking, utilization, and overall contract economics
• Oversee payroll processes and workforce-related financial reporting, with strong familiarity with systems such as UKG, QuickBooks, and related payroll or HRIS platforms
• Ensure the company remains in compliance with all relevant financial, tax, and regulatory requirements, including compliance considerations associated with a workforce that may include both armed and unarmed security personnel
• Establish, improve, and maintain internal controls, financial policies, and reporting procedures to support scalability and operational discipline
• Provide financial insight on customer performance, operational efficiency, and long-term business strategy
• Serve as a trusted advisor to ownership on growth, profitability, risk management, and overall financial health
• Manage external relationships including auditors, tax advisors, banks, insurance brokers, and other financial partners

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA and/or MBA preferred
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, with prior CFO, VP of Finance, or senior financial leadership experience required
• Strong background in financial reporting and analysis
• Experience in a contract-driven, workforce-heavy, or regulated service-based business strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience with contract and customer analysis, profitability review, pricing strategy, and cost allocation by contract
• Strong understanding of payroll, workforce time tracking, and related operational finance functions
• Experience with UKG, QuickBooks, and payroll systems strongly preferred
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance in industries involving field employees, licensing, or workforce oversight is highly desirable
• Strategic mindset with the ability to operate both as an executive leader and a hands-on problem solver
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across finance, operations, and executive leadership

Ideal Background

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting a business where financial performance is closely tied to labor management, customer contracts, regulatory compliance, and operational execution. Candidates coming from security, staffing, facilities, field services, transportation, or similar industries will be especially relevant.

Pay: $200,000.00 – $235,000.00 per year
