Technical Designer

Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid – Remote + In-Person Fittings)

Position Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Contract

Compensation: from $75,000 (or hourly/contract equivalent)

Yoon Chung Design is a Los Angeles-based full-package apparel design, development, and production studio working with emerging and established fashion, activewear, and lifestyle brands.

We are seeking an experienced Technical Designer who can work independently, lead fittings, collaborate with domestic pattern makers and overseas factories, and support product development from concept through production.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, solution-oriented, and able to manage multiple development projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Design & Fit

• Lead fit sessions and evaluate garment fit, balance, construction, and functionality.
• Identify fit issues and provide clear, practical solutions to pattern makers and factories.
• Work closely with domestic pattern makers to develop and refine patterns.
• Create detailed fit comments and maintain accurate development records.
• Review and approve pattern corrections, grading, and fit revisions.
• Ensure consistency in fit, quality, and construction throughout development.

Product Development

• Create and maintain Tech Packs from concept through production.
• Work closely with designers and product developers to translate design intent into production-ready garments.
• Review garment specifications, measurements, construction details, and bill of materials.
• Manage sample development from initial prototype through production approval.

Vendor & Factory Communication

• Communicate directly with domestic vendors and overseas factories throughout development.
• Review samples and provide clear technical feedback.
• Troubleshoot development and production issues as they arise.
• Track development timelines and follow up proactively to keep projects moving forward.

QualificationsRequired

• 5+ years of Technical Design experience.
• Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, patternmaking, grading, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience working directly with domestic pattern makers and overseas factories.
• Ability to independently lead fittings and communicate pattern corrections.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail.

Preferred

• Swimwear and Activewear experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working with stretch fabrics, compression garments, and performance apparel.
• Familiarity with both domestic and overseas production.

What Success Looks Like

The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively, and understands the importance of moving development forward efficiently.

Efficiency, accuracy, and responsiveness are critical to this role. Candidates must be able to review samples, complete fit comments, and turn around development feedback within 48 hours whenever possible.

This position is best suited for someone who enjoys problem-solving, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, pattern makers, and factories.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position combining remote work with in-person fittings.

Candidates must be located in the Los Angeles area and available to attend in-person fittings approximately 1–2 times per week. Outside of fittings and key meetings, work may be performed remotely.
