What You’ll Do

MARC partners with the University of Wisconsin Hospital, the VA Hospital, and the Madison Metropolitan School District to provide employment training and career development opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities.

As a Specialist/Job Assistant, you will support interns throughout a nine-month internship program designed to prepare them for competitive employment. New interns are coached each year.

Key responsibilities include:

• Coach and support interns as they develop workplace skills.
• Assist interns in gaining the skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment
• Support interns through three to four job-site rotations during the program year, providing exposure to a variety of work experiences
• Provide on-site training, coaching, and feedback at internship locations
• Help interns identify career interests, strengths, and employment goals
• Assist interns during the summer months as they secure competitive employment or continue in work rotations until permanent employment is obtained
• Collaborate with families, school staff, employers, and community partners to support successful employment outcomes
• Complete and assist with Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) documentation and reports
• Assist with job development activities, including identifying and cultivating employment opportunities within the community
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to participant progress

Primary Work Locations

• University of Wisconsin Hospital
• William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital (VA Hospital)
• Additional job sites may be supported as needed.

What You Bring:

• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
• Experience in vocational services, supported employment, education, workforce development, or human services preferred

Skills & Strengths

• Understanding of developmental disabilities and employment support services
• Ability to teach workplace skills and foster independence
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and collaboration abilities
• Ability to build positive relationships with interns, employers, families, and community partners
• Some knowledge of DVR reports preferred (but will train)

Requirements

• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with a good driving record
• Reliable personal vehicle
• Flexibility to travel to other job sites as needed.
