The Division
The Community Services Division (CSD) empowers and supports residents, schools, and local organizations to make the city more livable, safe and clean. CSD is comprised of three core service program areas- BeautifySJ, Grantmaking for Community Impact, and Youth Intervention Services. Overseen by a Deputy Director and two Division Managers, there are 161 full-time equivalent employees and an operating budget of approximately $52 million along with various sources including State, Federal and other special funds.
BeautifySJ
The BeautifySJ Program conducts blight reduction, community beautification, neighborhood engagement, and encampment management services. Services include graffiti removal program, illegal dumping program, neighborhood dumpster day program, neighborhood litter program, recreational vehicle pollution prevention program, encampment trash removal program/abatement, clean gateways and cash for trash program.
Position Duties
BeautifySJ is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Maintenance Worker II vacancy.
Under general supervision, employees in the Maintenance Worker II (MWII) position provide lead direction to small crews engaged in the abatement and response to illegal dumping complaints throughout the City and provide support to all Beautify SJ programs including the Encampment Trash Program. MWIIs are major contributors to the Department’s efforts to provide exceptional service to its residents by working to beautify the City. Employees are expected to work a five-day per week schedule, either Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

More information on the typical duties can be found in the Class Specification for Maintenance Worker II. This position requires being able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects averaging a weight of 50 pounds, or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment;
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Educational Development [G.E.D.] Test or California Proficiency Certificate)
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, or repair of streets, sewers, parks or public facilities, or related field.
